Earth and Sky Shawl Yarn Kit - Westknits MKAL #1

This is a kit to knit the original version of the Stephen West MKAL Ravelry: Earth & Sky pattern by Stephen West Earth & Sky. This shawl features a simple application of Intarsia and a top-down construction. Stephen's first MKAL invites us all to consider the nature of the fibre in the yarn we are using as the pattern is so simple. More than colour or dye style, the fibre of the yarn shines through in stockinette and garter making it the perfect canvas to explore one of the most sublime luxury yarns of all time, Road to China Light by the Fibre Company. 

Affectionately described by Ethan as, "everything soft in the whole world except for wool," this blend of silk, alpaca, camel, and cashmere is here to make you gasp. Every time you reach for a shawl or garment knit in Road to China Light you are reaching for something truly exquisite. Named for the jewels that it glows like RTC Light has a prismatic effect from the different base fibres which allow colours to bloom to their full extent under the light in simple stitches. Lace, subtle allover texture, and minimal cables are striking ways to adorn this yarn without overwhelming the inherent beauty. This pattern will serve as a lovely way to make a timeless wearable accessory and to familiarize yourself with the yarn for future endeavours. 

Additionally, Ethan will be providing some additional content in the form of tutorials for using up the additional yarn to either embellish the shawl or make a coordinating accessory. The kit comes in a simple cotton bag, and while the pattern is not provided the cost of the pattern has been discounted from the total. The pattern calls for 3.75mm needles, we offer these tips from both Knitpro KnitPro - Symfonie Interchangeable Needle Tips - 13cm, (5") - 3.75 mm – Get Flocked and Chiaogoo Chiaogoo - Twist Stainless Steel Tips 5" (13cm) - 3.75mm – Get Flocked for your convenience. We recommend a 100cm cable for this project.
