TILIA
Tilia is a luxurious yarn, spun from 70% kidmohair and 30% mulberry silk. Technically, Tilia is a thin worsted spun, brushed yarn. Mohair has all the good properties we know from wool. It's warm, beautiful, and can absorb moisture, making it comfortable to wear. The mohair fibers are, compared to wool, shiny and a bit stronger. Silk has been one of the most sought-after textile fibers for thousands of years. It is glossy, beautiful, strong and incredibly comfortable to wear. The combination of silk and a cloud of mohair is one of the most delicious and luxurious yarns you could wish to knit with.
Mohair comes from the Angora goat. The Angora goat originates from the area around Ankara in Turkey, hence the name. The word mohair has Arabic roots, and the Angora goat is also sometimes referred to as mohair goat. We spin Tilia from mohair from farms in South Africa.
Mulberry silk is the best silk available. It is glossy, and the fibers are uniform and stronger than other silk fibers. Mulberry silk has been produced for millennia in China and is an important export commodity. In ancient times, China was the only country that produced silk.
You can of course knit with Tilia alone, but we also recommend knitting it together with one of our other qualities. Saga, Alva and Vilja, for example, are great to knit or crochet with Tilia.
