 Printed Pattern

The unisex Linear Sock pattern features wide panels of knit and narrow grooves of purl that gently curve around the heel. Enjoy crisp lines and graceful shaping in the top-down pattern to keep your feet cosy and warm.

My family love to wear hand knitted socks instead of slippers in winter, especially on our cold hardwood floors, so I wanted to create a sock pattern that we could all appreciate. It's also a small nod to the classic NZ hardwearing sock that many NZers might remember. I still remember those ribbed, woollen socks drying by the fire in winter after my Dad came home from work.

Designed to be worn with approx 2-3 cm / 0.75 - 1.25" of negative ease.

Fit & Yarn Details

I recommend a 4ply yarn with wool and nylon. The wool is good for warmth and structure while the nylon adds durability.

Sock Circumference: cm = 17.5 (20, 22.5, 25) / inches = 7 (8, 9, 10)

Gauge: 32 sts x 40 rows in the Linear stitch pattern

Needles: 2.25 mm / US1 circular needles

Metres = 230 (275, 320, 365) / Yards = 250 (300, 350, 400)

For the sample I used: Zealana Cozi 4ply / sock weight yarn (58% merino, 22% nylon, 15% brushtail possum down, 5% baby alpaca) in sugar. Zealand Cozi yarn is quite heavy for a sock yarn (the gauge on the label is 28 sts per 10cm / 4” in stockinette st, but it feels hardwearing and warm) so if your first swatch is giving you a gauge closer to 36 sts in the Linear stitch pattern, then I’d suggest making a sock size larger than your intended finished size rather than adjusting your needle sizes otherwise your fabric might be too loose. I added an extra size in the grading to give you that flexibility.
